Bill Hoag

William R. “Bill” Hoag, of Mt. Lebanon, Pa., formerly of Upper St. Clair, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 87.





Beloved husband of 65 years to Elizabeth Hoag; loving father of William Jr., Robert (Catherine) II, Thomas (Judy), Richard (Carole), & Michael (Susan); cherished grandfather of Robert III, Christine, Theodore, Ava, Marra, Bethany, Caroline, Kimberly, Megan, Amy, Wade & Phillip; Caring great- grandfather of Robert IV & Starla; devoted and loving brother of Mary Alice Harrison; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.





Bill fought as First Lieutenant in WWII in Normandy under the Thunderbolt Division of the Eighty Third Division of the United States Army. He received the Purple Heart for injuries incurred on the battlefield. Mr. Hoag attended Bethany College and was on the Board of Trustee, while he obtained his Honorary Doctorate. He then graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1946.





Bill was the President and CEO of West Elizabeth Lumber Co., and Chairmen of the Board of NILCO Lumber Co., at the time of his death. Mr. Hoag was a member of the Syria Shrine, Jester Ct. #2, South Hills Country Club, PAA, Masons, and lifetime member to the Duquesne Hunting and Fishing Club and the Duquesne Club. He was a member of Sanibel Congregational Church.  





Bill will always be remembered as a man who lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every moment of it. As Bill always said, “Kill ‘em with kindness.”
