Hugh Cameron

Hugh M. Cameron of Sanibel, formerly of Downers Grove, IL, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010. He was 88.



Born in Downers Grove, Mr. Cameron lived there most of his life before retiring to Sanibel with his wife in 1990. He retired from a large telecommunications company where he was responsible for its corporate accounting office.



Mr. Cameron graduated from the University of Illinois and was a member of The Presidents Council. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army who served in the 78th Division, Company D. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and awarded the Purple Heart. He also received the European Campaign, Victory, Good Conduct, Bronze Star, Combat Infantry and the 311th Crest medals.



He was active in the Sanibel-Captiva Lions Club, where for 10 years he served as Treasurer. He was also a volunteer at the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation for 15 years.



Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Frances M. Cameron; his two children, daughter, Pati Trevino and son, Bill Zywiciel and his wife Luz Maria; his three grandchildren, Kristina Trevino, Sofia Zywiciel, and Nicolas Zywiciel; and is pre-deceased by Beemer Cameron.



Friends and family are invited to a memorial service being planned for January 2011. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Sanibel-Captiva Lions, P.O. Box 391, Sanibel, FL 33957.
