Birdie-A-Thon returns to The Dunes on March 10

February 16, 2011
Submitted by MATT OAKLEY, Head Golf Professional, The Dunes

Once again, The Dunes Golf & Tennis Club will be hosting a PGA Birdie-A-Thon for charity. This event is where I go out with the other PGA Professionals from The Dunes and play a scramble for 36 holes and the members donate a dollar amount per birdie we make. The funds go to Southwest Florida Junior Golf, 1st Tee of Naples, Florida Gulf Coast University men’s and women’s golf teams and many other worthy causes. I have a complete list in my office, if you are interested in where the money goes.

For each $1,000 we receive in total donations, we get to send a foursome to the 2011 Southwest Chapter PGA Tournament of Charities to be held at Kingsway Country Club on Monday, April 4. One of the PGA Golf Professionals at The Dunes will take the three highest donators to play in this event. We have always gotten to at least $1,000 and have sent a team every year.

We will be playing the Birdie-A-Thon here at The Dunes on Monday, March 10. So, please stop by the Golf Shop to sign the donation board before then. We typically make 20-30 birdies in 36 holes so if we made 25 birdies and you donated $2 each it would be a $50.00 total donation, etc.

Thank you in advance for helping me reach our goal of at least $1,000 in total donations and helping these wonderful PGA charities.
