To the editor,
I thought I lived where you could worship - or not - at a place and time of your choice. Not on Captiva on Sept. 18. The island will be closed down from 6:45 to 8:45 a.m., a period when many leave to worship.
The triathlon at South Seas takes precedence.
Marathons have been held at South Seas without closing the island. The triathlon could also.
It's ironic that locals were welcome at South Seas prior to the current owner. Today, South Seas not only prohibits locals on its property but will prohibit them from moving on the island for at least two hours on Sept. 18.
Don't have a fire or a medical emergency that morning. There is no way emergency vehicles can weave through 500 bicyclists and hundreds of volunteers, supporters and friends lining the road.
Hopefully, vacationers will know about this in making their departure plans.
We have only one access road on Captiva. Closing it is a bad idea.
