South Seas Island Resort is hosting a new event to celebrate a spectacular winter season, give golfers multiple chances to win $10,000 and to raise funds for the Captiva Community PaneL all in the wash of a Captiva sunset.
The inaugural "Monday after the Masters" Golf Event and Sunset Community Celebration takes place April 9, with a 4 p.m. shotgun start on South Seas' Par 3 golf course with finishing holes running parallel to the beach and the Gulf of Mexico.
With a maximum of 18 foursomes, every player will have an opportunity to win $10,000 on five different holes (five opportunities), with the remaining holes offering hole-in-one prizes and a closest to the pin contest. The closest-to-the-pin winners will compete in a shootout on the 9th hole as the sun sets, with the winner donning Captiva's "Green Jacket."
Hospitality tents surrounding the 9th hole will offer great views of the players and the sunset shootout along with spectator-friendly access throughout the course. A silent auction will also offer hotel deals, certificates and other items adjacent to the 9th green. Finally, a cash bar and barbecue will be available to cap off a successful event along with a typically spectacular Captiva sunset.
Money raised will go towards the funding of the Captiva Community Panel's initiatives which include the community-driven update of Captiva-specific language in the Lee Plan (its comprehensive land use plan) and the county's Land Development Code to protect the long-term interests of the island.
Since its inception, the panel has combined donations from the community with more than $350,000 in grants to study water quality and re-vegetate the island after Hurricane Charley while fostering a strong relationship with Lee County officials on a range of issues affecting the island.
Foursomes and sponsorships are still available, with details (and a registration form) available at www.captivacommunitypanel.com. For information, call 239-472-7565.
