Special to the Reporter (sancapnews@breezenewspapers.com) , Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

SCCF is participating with West Marine to celebrate the opening of their new Fort Myers flagship store.

Tickets to the "Cruising for a Cause" event 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, are $10 each and can be purchased in advance at SCCF. Guests will enjoy music, delicious appetizers from Pinchers Crab Shack, drinks, prizes and a live auction, including a fishing trip for four on July 20 with Edgar Hansen, deck boss and chief engineer of the F/V Northwestern, featured on "Deadliest Catch." Hansen will be on hand to greet guests and meet the lucky winner.

For tickets sold by SCCF, the entire $10 comes directly to SCCF, plus West Marine donates an extra $2 for every ticket sold by SCCF that comes through the door at the store on July 19. The ticket price includes food, drink and a West Marine gift bag.

Tickets can be purchased at SCCF, 3333 Sanibel-Captiva Road on Sanibel, by phone (472-2329) and online (www.sccf.org). By phone and online, please allow time for mailing.

The new store, the fifth flagship store in Florida, is located at 7070 College Parkway, Suite 102 at the intersection of College Parkway and U.S. 41 / Tamiami Trail. This will be the biggest West Marine store in Southwest Florida. A weekend of special events is planned for the Grand Opening from July 19 through July 22.

The "Cruising for a Cause" charity event will support local marine-based non-profits. Also at auction will be two limited edition prints by photographer Tony Ludovico.

Tickets also will be available at the door. All proceeds from the evening go directly to participating non-profits, including SCCF. The SCCF Marine Lab will be there with displays about the work of the lab, including RECON water quality monitoring sensors, and the sea turtle program.

The celebration continues Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Guests will enjoy a free boat show and high tech electronics demonstrations as well as discounts throughout the weekend.
