Angela J. Longa

October 19, 2012
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

Angela "Angie" Longa, nee Romeo, of

Sanibel, died on Sept. 22, 2012, after a

short illness at Hope Hospice in Fort

Myers. She was an inspiration to her family

and those around her as she battled an

aggressive form of leukemia, with her positivity,

courage, and laughter.

"Ange" was born on June 7, 1931, in

Bayonne, N.J., where she raised her three

children, until moving to Sanibel in 1989

with her beloved husband, Richie, who

died suddenly last summer. Angie and

Richie were known to their neighbors for

their hospitality, warmth, and willingness

to lend a helping hand when needed. She

was an employee of Shearson Loeb Rhodes

in New York City and New Jersey,

Cablevision on Sanibel, and The Sanibel

Hilton.

She was a beloved member of her community,

welcoming everyone she met with

a warm smile as she took her daily walks.

She was always willing to whip up a pot of

her famous sauce and meatballs and provide

a quick meal for returning seasonal

neighbors and friends. Angie's passion

was spending time with her family, especially

her grandchildren, and singing and

dancing. Gifted with a beautiful voice, she

enjoyed singing everything from opera to

scat to Broadway classics.

Angie is pre-deceased by her husband

Richard "Richie" "Dick" Longa, sister

Grace Romeo Bonner, and brothers Tony,

Paul, and Frank Romeo. She is survived by

her children, Karen and Chet Dobies of

Fort Myers, Dane Longa of Sanibel, and

Diane Craft of New York City. Also survived

by four grandchildren Dane Michael

Longa, Francesca, Isabella, and Amelia

Craft, three great grandchildren, nine

nieces and nephews, and seven great grandnieces

and nephews.

There will be a Memorial service on

Sunday, Nov. 11, at 2:30 p.m. at St

Michael's All Angels Episcopal Church,
