Rash of burglaries continues

December 28, 2012

Sanibel Police are investigating another rash of burglaries at beachfront condominiums.

Eleven incidents were reported to police between Nov. 14 and Dec. 20. All incidents occurred between the 500 block of East Gulf Drive and the 3400 block of West Gulf Drive.

Police said the burglaries were carried out in late afternoon or early evening hours

"All of the burglaries could have been avoided if people had locked their doors," said police chief William Tomlinson.

As he did after a similar string of burglaries around Thanksgiving, Tomlinson cautions residents and visitors to lock windows, doors and vehicles to protect their valuables.

He also advises everyone on the island to be aware of their surroundings at all times and report suspicious persons or activity to police at (239) 472-3111 or in the event of a life threatening emergency dial 911.
