Lecture: Your garden matters

April 25, 2013
Island Reporter, Captiva Current, Sanibel-Captiva Islander

The Master Gardener Lecture Series of the Sanibel-Captiva Gardeners Club continues at the Sanibel Public Library at 10 a.m. on May 2 with Jenny Evans, manager of SCCF's native nursery, presenting the topic of "your garden matters."

It's a discussion of what you plant and the actions you take in your yard and the positive or negative effect on the environment and ecosystem on Sanibel. Evans will discuss the link between plants and wildlife (particularly insects) and will recomment small actions that can be taken in your own backyard for positive change.

SCCF's native nursery was established more than 35 years ago and founded the first native plant nursery in America. The nursery has established a wide range of sources for their native plants which are replinished continuously. The nursery also propagates native plants onsite.

SCCF plans to establish a demonstration garden at the Bailey Homestead property.

As a member of SCCF you are entitled to a free evaluation of your property and a 10 percent discount on nursery plant material. Delivery of large specimens or large orders of mulch is available.

Evans is an articulate, knowledgeable professional who combines a strong scientific background with a wealth of practical knowledge of Sanibel's climate and ecology. The powerpoint digital photography is superb and will add interest to her presentation.

Questions from the audience are welcomed.

The lecture is free and open to the public, but seating at the library is limited.
