There will be a hurricane preparedness seminar at 3 p.m. May 2 at South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island. It will be an opportunity to learn about Captiva's Structural Safety Inspection Team, a group of volunteers responsible for conducting damage analyses on the island in the event of a severe tropical storm. Attendees will also hear from WINK-TV meteorologist Eric Stone among other guest speakers.
During the seminar, residents will be able to obtain 2012 hurricane passes, which requires a driver's license, lease or utility bill showing a Captiva address as proof of residency. This will allow residents to re-enter the island following an evacuation. Before attending the seminar, visit the City of Sanibel web site at mysanibel.com to print the hurricane pass application. Anyone who obtained a pass last year is still valid.
The seminar is cosponsored by the Captiva Hurricane Preparation and Response Committee, Lee County Library System's Captiva Memorial Library, Captiva Island Fire Control District and Lee County Sheriff's Department, as well as the Lee County Emergency Operations Center.
