Ileen Imel peacefully passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013. in Fort Myers following an extended illness. She was born to Marion and Florence DeVault in Lafayette, Ind., on June 19, 1918.
Ileen attended school in Indianapolis and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority at Purdue University. She met Amelia Earhart while at Purdue. She was married in Pensacola, Fla., to the love of her life, Walter Imel on April 6, 1943. Ileen taught home economics in the Indianapolis Junior High School system for 30 years. Upon retirement, they moved to Fort Myers. Wally and Ileen were founding members of Faith United Methodist Church.
The Imels also enjoyed time camping and spending time with family and friends in Presque, Wisc., and Branson, Mo.
Ileen started a craft store in Cape Coral and worked at Three Crafty Ladies on Sanibel Island for 34 years until the age of 90. She enjoyed shelling on the beach on Sanibel, oil painting, candle making and other crafts. She loved nature, especially birds.
Ileen was an amazing Christian woman, inspiring, so positive and generous in spirit and with her love. She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt and friend and gave of herself tirelessly to her church serving on the Building Committee, organized communion and volunteering at the church's Clothes Closet until she was 94.
Her husband, parents, and brothers Glenn and Vere DeVault, brother-in-laws Bud, Bob and Dean Imel and a sister-in-law Gladys preceded her in death. She is survived by her son Edward (Marcia) Imel, Noblesville, Ind., sisters-in-law Virginia Faye Imel, Marianna, Fla., Bernice Imel, Indianapolis, Ind., Marge DeVault Madison, Wisc., 18 nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces and nephews and 5 great-great nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Monday, June 3 at the Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Home, 1600 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, June 4, at Faith United Methodist Church, 15690 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers, with interment at Lee Memorial Park Cemetery.

Thanks to the many friends, church family, and those at Health Park Care Center and Hospice who provided loving care and support throughout our mother's illness.
