One person died in a single car crash on Sanibel Captiva Road late Monday night, according to Sanibel Police Chief William Tomlinson.
The vehicle left the road about 10:30 p.m. and rolled over into dense brush near Clam Bayou. The car caught on fire, became engulfed in flames and ignited the surrounding brush before being extinguished by firefighters.
It's the first vehicle crash fatality on Sanibel is a long time.
Tomlinson is not releasing the name of the victim at this time.
