Bank of the Islands/Edison National Bank has signed on as a Gold Sponsor for A Seahorse Dream, a new fundraising project benefitting children's healthcare in our community.

A Seahorse Dream, a not-for-profit fundraising public art project, has been created to help raise funds for construction of the New Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida.

"Like Sanibel-Captiva Cares, A Seahorse Dream is a great way for the local community to help Children's Hospital," said Bank of the Islands/Edison National Bank President Robbie Roepstorff. "It's just wonderful to see other Lee County businesses helping to sponsor such a worthwhile project."

Organizations like the bank sponsor five-foot tall seahorse statues that will be creatively painted or decorated by local artists and prominently displayed throughout Collier, Charlotte, Glades, Hendry, and Lee counties.

"We have great plans for the artistic decoration and ultimate home for our sponsored seahorse," said Bank of the Islands Vice president and Sanibel Office Manager Rob Lisenbee. "Watch for an announcement in the coming weeks."

The Seahorse Dream Project will continue through early 2014, ending with a gala dinner and auction of select seahorses at the Sanibel Harbour Resort on March 7.

The project is being guided by a steering committee of seven volunteers working through the not-for-profit Lee Memorial Health System Foundation. According to Jack Thomas, a member of the steering committee, "Because it takes money to provide for the quality health care our children deserve, the Seahorse Dream Team needs help now from residents throughout southwest Florida. The Seahorse Dream Team's goal is to sell 50 seahorses before next March."

Bank of the Islands' Sanibel office is located at 1699 Periwinkle Way, at the corner of Casa Ybel Road, on Sanibel. The Captiva office is at 14812 Captiva Drive, next to the Captiva Post Office. For additional information please visit www.bankoftheislands.com or call 472-7211.
