The City of Sanibel and Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation (SCCF) hosted a joint ribbon cutting ceremony for the Starr D. Thomas Memorial Boardwalk that connects the city's Pond Apple Trail with SCCF's Shipley's Trail and the Bailey Homestead Preserve. The Pond Apple Park trailhead is located in the southwest corner of the Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce parking lot. A 1.6 mile loop trail takes visitors through various habitats including tropical hardwood forest, pine flatwoods, wetland forest and open water habitats where they can observe wildlife in their native habitats. The family of Starr D. Thomas attended the ribbon cutting. ROBBIE SPENCER.
