The pedestrian who died in an overnight crash at Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Fort Myers has been identified as Bobby Lee Bush, 69, of no known address.

Fort Myers Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigator Officer Jason Sandt's follow up investigation determined a trash truck traveling westbound on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard struck Bush as he was crossing the roadway at Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard, according to a release issued Tuesday morning by the agency.

"Bush was found at fault for not crossing within the designated crosswalk," the release states. "Contributing factors according to the investigator were Bush's dark clothing coupled with the inclement weather. The vehicles driver will not be cited or charged."

The accident happened at 3:47 a.m. Tuesday.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard westbound lanes of travel into downtown were closed at Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard while the incident was being investigated, reopening shortly after 8 a.m.
