Friends and dogs of all ages are invited to Lily the labradoodle's tenth birthday celebration.

Lily & Co. Jewelry, named after the now-iconic labradoodle, will host Lily's annual birthday bash to raise money for the Fort Myers-based Animal Refuge Center. The no-kill shelter is dedicated to finding suitable, loving homes for animals that have been spayed or neutered, specifically dogs and cats.

"I remember the first dog birthday party," said Lily & Co. co-owner Dan Schuyler. "[Lily's owner Karen Bell] suggested it, I thought she was kidding. A dog party?!" he exclaimed.

Over a hundred dogs will be at Lily & Co. Jewelers on Saturday, April 26. PHOTOS PROVIDED.

It turned out to be pandemonium, with over a hundred dogs and humans scurrying around the Lily & Co. parking lot, with activities for Lily's two-legged and four-legged friends. This year, the big day will feature caricature drawings of dogs and their owners, two kinds of cake (one for humans and pup cakes for pooches), and alluring raffle prizes to raise money for ARC.

Prizes include an Island Paws basket valued at $500 and a diamond dog bone pendant worth over $800. All proceeds will be donated to ARC.

"We hope to break the record we set last year, we raised almost $15,000," said Schuyler.

"She has been a wonderful friend to me," said Karen Bell, co-owner of Lily & Co. "Every dog must have its day!"

Lily & Co. is located at 520 Tarpon Bay Road across from Bailey's General Store. For more information call the Jewelry Gallery at 472-2888.
